  1. Shashi Nair says:

I was interviewing prospective candidates for the officer cadre of the Indian defence forces, for close to 5 years. If there was one quality which led to outright rejection of a candidate (to the extent that he never even came up for discussion), it was attitude. Everything else is trainable, except this.

So, is hiring for attitude by companies something new?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Capt. Nair. I think it is not something new but something that has to be followed by the management – once it falls in place as is with some companies they see tremendous value in the process. It is a more of a process of selecting the best with a well defined process not only resume screening. As you say it very well here – a person who is a misfit to the company culture would be difficult to train – recognizing this in the selection process is to the org’s advantage – but not an easy task for sure.
