I always find these articles interesting. 5 best new jobs, 5 best cities, that’s all fine for the idea worker, but what if you’re not an IT or HR guy or girl? Maybe you are not ready or even have the desire to start a business. What if you’re a flavor chemist, or a flat BUR roofer? You just can’t drop everything and chase some goal. On the other hand…you could start preparing now for that position.

I’m back in the job market again, and I can’t think of anything I’d rather be than a chemist and microscopist. You can follow my adventure at http://the jobtrap.blogspot.com

    Hello Searcher12,
Great job in making it back to the job market.
You are right there is not one solution to finding the best job either during recession or otherwise. it very much depends on what you truly want to do and how conducive the demographics and work environment is at that time. But as you say “start preparing for that position” the point is not to stop your professional and personal development process just because the economy is slowing down – even in the toughest of currents the best bet to emerge a winner is to ‘just keep swimming’.

I remember Lee Iacocca mentioning in his autobiography something his father told him…can’t recall verbatim but it was in defence of the food business (he owned a restaurant)…’no matter how bad the recession, people won’t stop eating….’
I agree…nothing’s more satisfying than food business….but ofcourse, you’ve got to get it right as well…

Helpful article and website. Here is another fairly new tool your readers may want to know about. A website called http://www.linkup.com can be another helpful tool for job searching today. (Not to be confused with the networking site linked-in.) Many employers are still hiring, but they don’t post on the main job boards (which is where most of the other aggregate sites, like Simply Hired and Indeed, search) because companies are getting inundated with resumes from tons of people that are not qualified. However, the company is still required to post the job–so they may just post it on their own company website. This website is a search engine that looks at company websites only. It’s free and can be very helpful.

Interesting… I might try some of this on my blog, too. It’s quite interesting how you sometimes stop being innovative and just go for an accepted solution without actually trying to improve it… you make a couple of good points.
