Agree with you here, it is tough but the most important thing when stepping out of the workforce to take care of kids/family is to keep on developing your skill set - it might be that you can devote only one or two hours to yourself - but please do that! It is important to have a stable financial situation when taking a decision of quitting work, make sure you have that covered. Keep up-to-date on networking and read about new technology or development in your field. There could be a time further down the road when you feel that you can get back to work - maybe part time since kids are in full-time school - transition would be much smoother if follow this advice! But life's true meaning is living in present - but keep an eye on the future so you can enjoy today and tomorrow!

Thanks for sharing this. I can so relate to it. I am conflicted about staying home rather than working but my views are exactly the same as the article. I do see what I'm doing as raising our future generation. I put my all into raising my kids. Not to mention I love them and they are my number one priority. Theres also more than just dealing with the kids when you're running a home and family. Sooo, soo much more. I never even realized it myself untill I did it. I used to be a working mother and I have to say my life became much more balanced when I decided to stay home with the kids. I became so overwelmed when I was doing both (I was also dealing with constant migraines which probably played a part) that I went into a downward spiral of depression which didn't make me enthusiastic about being a good mother, wife, friend or anything else for that matter. Staying home brought my life out of the gutter. I just wish I could kick the guilt feelings I have over letting my career go.

Networking is the art of relationship building. In the business world, this translates to being able to quickly establish honest, positive relationships with many people without going through a lot of fuss to make it happen. Events are good but of course networking online is also valuable. Tips for making contacts here! http://www.jigsaw.com/join/JoinFree

Great! Thanks for letting us know Chris and yes good luck on Unrabble. Sure enough that's how we want the hiring process to be - moving beyond ATS - some smart companies are already doing it and we'll see more joining in.
And it will only improve..
Careerbright wishes you the very best in this venture; reach out to the new start-ups which will adapt fast.

Thanks for writing about Unrabble!

Two quick points:

* The product is now available for free!, and
* Read a couple of case studies regarding what benefits Unrabble customers say from using the hiring software here: http://www.unrabble.com/category/case-study-industries/

I love that infographic! Really shows how much we rely on gadgets and wi-fi even during a business trip. However, I do agree with you that we could all use a little break and not feel the need to be connected all the time.
