A lot of people think that working from home is easy. After all, you have the freedom of working when you want, where you want and how you want. You also don’t have to worry about having a boss breathing down your neck as you rustle through paperwork and performance reviews are a thing of the past. This may be the case, but working from home can also be difficult and organization is one of the many things that the self-employed struggle with. Here are a few tips that can help you get organized and boost productivity when working from home:

Get Dressed

Working from home means that you can wear whatever you want. If you work in your pyjamas however could make you feel sloppy or slow. You won’t be as focused as you could be and you may even find that your mindset isn’t as positive as well. Getting changed in the morning will help to give you a good start, and it will also help you to differentiate your working hours.

Clean your Space

If you do not have a clean workspace then this will cause you major problems. You may find that you just can’t find what you need, that you forget about things and that you just can’t concentrate half the time as well. The only way around this would be for you to clean your space. When you do this, try and organise the things that you need on a day to day basis. If you need pens, buy a pen organiser and if you have documents scattered all over your desk, buy a filing cabinet. Little things like this can have a huge impact on your working performance and it can also help you to stay way more organised in the day.

Know what you Need

One issue that those who work from home have is that they find it hard to invest in their business. After all, why would you want to spend a small fortune on software when you can easily work around it by using free versions? This is understandable but you do have to make sure that you have everything you need to get the job done properly. This doesn’t have to be expensive either and this is especially the case if you are a savvy shopper. For example, if you find that you are constantly fumbling over documents and formatting, don’t hire a freelancer to do it for you. Instead, look into document automation instead. Document anarchy solved!

Set Working Hours

When you set working hours, you can easily boost your organisation and your productivity. If you know that you have to get everything done by 5pm, you aren’t going to be spending most of your time during the day checking social media. If you are strict with your working hours then you will see your organisational levels go through the roof. After all, people tend to work better and faster when they are pressed with deadlines, and if you are one of these people then setting working hours is certainly the way to go and it can work wonders for your organisational skills.
