#1 You’re In The Wrong Profession
It’s very difficult to feel motivated when you’re stuck in the wrong profession. If you don’t like what you’re doing, you’ll have to force yourself in order to give 100% on a daily basis. These are the people who dread the start of a week and rejoice at the end of it. If you find yourself in this position, something needs to change in the future. Otherwise, it’s going to be very difficult to force that motivation.
#2 You’re Doing What’s Expected Of You
There’s a traditional path that many of us follow when it comes to our career. We’ll go through the educational system, stopping off to obtain a degree in a subject we feel best suited for. Then, we’ll enter the world of work and stick in that profession until we retire. But, did you ever stop to think what you wanted to do? Did you just go along with it because that’s what was expected of you? There’s your problem.
#3 Money Is Your Motivator
Don’t get me wrong; there are many successful people out there who have used money as a motivator. For some people, though, money simply isn’t enough. It can also be an unwelcome deterrent from your true aspirations. If you’re taking a job offer because of the dollar notes on the paper rather than the role, ask yourself if it’s really what you want.
#4 You Don’t Have Long-Term Goals
If you don’t have long-term goals, there’s no reason to be motivated to get any better. If you want to grow, you need that target of ambition. In fact, a successful CEO in Josh Tetrick was interviewed about his “overly ambitious” nature, and you can head to Forbes to read it. He’s just one example of a list of successful people who set themselves bigger and better goals to work towards. These goals are their motivational factors.
#5 Your Company Isn’t A Good Fit For You
Sometimes, the only reason you’re being held back is because you’re in the wrong company. It’s important to identify this, and start taking steps to find yourself a better work environment. Start looking for new jobs right away, or you might find that you get stuck in a rut.
#6 You Haven’t Figured It All Out Yet
It’s OK to be confused about where your career is heading. There are some people who never grasp what their true calling is, and there are some who stumble upon it by accident. The important thing is to remain optimistic for the future and always be on the lookout for an opportunity. Once you’ve found your ideal path, you’ll find that motivation comes a lot easier than it does now.
