On Leadership
What type of a leader are you? How do you influence others and are other influenced easily by your words and actions?
Of the various ways you can use to influence, persuade others to action, example rises way above the rest. As Albert Schweitzer correctly puts it together: “Example is not the main thing in influencing others, it is the only thing”.
What makes a Leader?
You can be a leader in your own way at what you do, to lead does not necessarily imply that you have to be in a powerful position. We’re all leaders!
Some inspiring thoughts came forward in a recent discussion on #careerchat (on Twitter) that I would like to share with you. Thanks to @DavidGaspin, @2CentsMKE, @bizMebizgal, @dianaantholis @careerbright and MyPath_MP for these thoughtful comments:
- A leader is someone who is sought out for guidance by people s/he does not manage. Some are happier in this role than others.
- True leaders seek opportunities for continuous learning and self-improvement.
- What Makes a Good Leader? 50% confidence to stick to beliefs, 50% flexibility to know when you’re wrong.
- A good leader leads by example not just words! Yes, words inspire but actions ignite passion.
- A true leader positively influences others around you & upholding a professional demeanor in all situations.
- I agree it is imp to both lead and follow – even leaders must follow other leaders – from past or present.
- You don’t have to make tremendous efforts to BE leader – lead by example, excellence at work is leadership.
- Some leaders are natural at “leading” but not developing others. Make sure employee development is a priority.
- I also watch others who I respect and observe how they lead and ask them when faced with a challenge.
- Leadership is about making DECISIONS. And being confident in those decisions.
- Leadership requires Charisma/Credibility/Risk/Passion/Vision/Knowledge/Delegation/Trust/Empathy
Am inspired! Lead on in your rightful way and strive to make the world a better place!
